Speed up the ECG screening process with KardiaStation
Prescribing and managing QT-prolonging medications just got easier

THE PROBLEM
Many commonly prescribed medications cause QT prolongation
A prolonged QT interval may lead to a dangerously fast rhythm, Torsades de Pointe, which is a potentially fatal polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT).
To assess the risk associated with long QT, the FDA requires a baseline ECG when prescribing or titrating some QT-prolonging medications. This requirement may present a barrier to physicians and patients to be able to start treatment without delay.
Concomitant administration of QT prolonging medications can increase risk of Torsade's de Pointes³
The most frequent therapeutic categories with QT prolongation issues include antiarrhythmics, antipsychotics, 47.9% of outpatient psychiatry patients were at risk for QT prolongation due to a drug-drug interaction (DDI) in a study of 1,326 participants in India¹
Increasing likelihood of >1 QT prolonging medications due to more medically complex patients or modifiable (eg, electrolyte abnormalities) and non-modifiable (eg, diabetes, age, gender) QTc aggravating risk factors³
Torsade's de Pointes (TP) may be more common than we think
10-100x higher rate of TdP reported by active surveillance systems (vs. spontaneous reports)⁷𝄒⁴
Prolonged QT interval is associated with a 3x increase in risk of. sudden cardiac death (SCD) over 6.7 years^
8x increase in risk of sudden cardiac death for patients >65 years⁷
“There is no absolute QTc interval at which a psychotropic should not be used, rather a comprehensive risk-benefit analysis should include an assessment of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic risks for TdP versus the risk of failure to control high-risk psychopathology or of psychiatric decompensation.”

Practice Impacts
- Improve outcomes with a proactive condition management program
- Reduce cost by optimizing healthcare utilization through prevention and clinical management
- Augment existing health programs and care
Patient Impacts
- Inconvenience of extra visit for ECG
- Potential for additional costs
- Possible lack of follow-up
- May miss out on optimal care
